Ett stycke: New pictografic orientation
Vad är kläder? Ett undersökande av vad vi har för förväntningar på och föreställningar om kläders funktion och estetiska uttryck. När blir material ett plagg?
Genom strikta begränsningar med syfte att frångå den traditionella mönsterkonstruktionen började jag undersöka gränsen mellan plagg och material. Genom att dra det till ytterligheterna utmanar jag min egen föreställning och förväntning om kläders estetiska uttryck, kvalitéer och funktion.
Alla plagg består av ett stycke och har så få fästpunkter/ -ytor som möjligt. Det som håller ihop plaggen och samtidigt skapar dess tre dimensionalitet är tryckknappar och enkla tråcklade sömmar. Genom så lite ingrepp som möjligt på tyget lämnas ett släktskap med det ursprungliga materialet. Knäpper du upp knappen, drar ur tråden återstår ett stycke tyg.
Arbetsnamnet new pictographic orientation, härleds ur att plaggen i plant läge bildar abstrakta geometriska former. Precis som piktogram är en abstrakt symbol för ett föremål eller ett begrepp, på samma vis representeras dessa nya konstruktioner av nya piktogram.
One piece: New pictografic orientation
What makes clothes? An investigation of our expectations on function and aesthetics expression of clothes. When does fabric become a garment?
I started to investigate the difference between garment and fabric by giving myself strict limitations, with the aim to deduct traditional pattern design. By pushing it to the extreme I challenge my own idea and expectations on clothes.
All garments is made out of one piece and as few connecting points/ -surfaces as possible. The thing holding the piece togheter and also giving it its three dimensionallity is the press studs and the simple tacking-stitches. By making limited interference on the fabric, it is still possible to derive its origin, the plain fabric. If you unbutton or take the thread away, the remaining is a piece of fabric.
New pictographic orientation derives from the abstract geometric shapes the clothing makes when not worn on the body. As pictogaphs is an abstract symbol for an item or a conception, in the same way these new designs represent new pictographs.
